Yesterday, we stated that we have a problem. The problem is that no matter how badly I want to please Christ, I’m just not able to apart from Him. This may sound silly but plenty of us wake up every morning and try to do just that. As the band Big Daddy Weave sings in their song “Being In Love With You” – “My dilemma is an issue of the heart when I try to live for you without You.”
There are a few simple ways that we can make sure we are on the right track and that we are constantly filling our metaphorical cup up. The first way is simply staying in His Word.
Reading, studying, and meditating on the Bible.
Peter echoes the words of Isaiah when he tells us the following:
1 Peter 1:24-25
People are like grass; their beauty is like a flower in the field. The grass withers and the flower fades. But the word of the Lord remains forever.
Divinely inspired, the Bible is the word of God. It is the most perfect truth that we can lay our hands on. Everything in it is for our good. It is to teach us how to love. It is to teach us how to forgive. It is to teach us how to be followers of Christ. You won’t find a situation in this life that the Bible doesn’t speak to.
For these reasons, we must cling to it. We must spend time taking it in. It must be a top priority in our lives. It has to be more important than football games, concerts, careers, boys, girls, money, and even the grand-daddy of all important things in life: T-ball games (no I din’t!).
In conclusion, one way that we are able to make sure we aren’t walking around like proverbial empty cups is to simply read our Bibles. If you never have or you’re not really sure how to get started, ask someone. Ask John. Ask Jason. Ask someone and ask them soon!
We have a serious problem and there’s no time to waste!
