Ecclesiastes 7:14 (NLT)
Enjoy prosperity while you can, but when hard times strike, realize that both come from God. Remember that nothing is certain in this life.
Yesterday, we briefly discussed a couple of points from the scripture above. First, it tells that hard times will strike. We can count on it. Secondly, it tells us that God is in control of both the good and bad. He is sovereign.
Today, we’ll discuss a third thing. Something that we all seem to know yet don’t seem to grasp. It tells us that nothing is certain in this life. We know this yet we still collapse when life starts to hurt. We still cave when things are taken away. We still crumple when we lose loved ones. Things like this will always hurt. They will always be hard to take but they don’t have to destroy us.
When we surrender our lives to Christ, we are given a new perspective. We are given the unique knowledge that the only things we have to hold on to in this life are the eternal things. The things that are not of this life on earth. We learn that nothing is certain in this life on earth except for the things that transcend it.
The God that created the universe just by speaking and created us, in His image, in our mother’s womb.
Jesus Christ, God’s only begotten Son, who died a sinner’s death on the cross in our place.
The Holy Spirit that walks with us on a daily basis guiding us closer to God, the father and Jesus, the son.
We can hold onto these things.
They are “certain.”
