So whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God.
I can relate to the whole movie moment metaphor is this section of the book.
My grandfather has been a representative for a wholesale meat company since returning from the Korean War in the 1950s. In this capacity, he’s criss-crossed the Mississippi Delta with his magnetic personality. When movie executives were scouting the area for the film The Help, they discovered him by happy accident. And convinced him to play a brief role in the film. They built up the role. Had him practice his one line relentlessly. Filmed the one scene for the better part of two days. And all for a starring role that lasted all of a half-second.
It would be foolish of me to tell you that my grandfather was the star of a Golden Globe and Academy Award-winning film. Not only because I didn't watch it myself (the plot seemed boring and I jealously guard my time), but because the movie isn't even about him. He is but a glorified extra with a line and a cameo. He shines, then disappears.
What Francis Chan is trying to get across is the same idea. Life, as well as all else involved in it, is about GOD. He is the star of the movie of Life. We, like my grandfather, get but a tiny moment to shine. So let us do just that! Like my grandfather, let us rehearse relentlessly and be wooed by the star so that when our time to shine arrives, we shine gloriously.
