Mark 1: 29-34 (MSG)
Directly on leaving the meeting place, they came to Simon and Andrew’s house, accompanied by James and John. Simon’s mother-in-law was sick in bed, burning up with fever. They told Jesus. He went to her, took her hand, and raised her up. No sooner had the fever left than she was up fixing dinner for them. That evening, after the sun was down, they brought sick and evil-afflicted people to him, the whole city lined up at his door! He cured their sick bodies and tormented spirits. Because the demons knew his true identity, he didn’t let them say a word.
One thing we notice about Jesus in the Gospels (or any other time for that matter). He never went “off duty” when He left the Meeting Place. In fact, His ministry seemed to be just beginning. He goes by a friend’s house and prays for and heals family members. The he continues the vigil, helping out a mass of people from that town. He had a line out the door and up the street, but He spent time with as many as he could. The term “people person” could describe no one as good as it did Jesus.
Hanging out at our Meeting Place (Refuge) is one of the highlights of our week. But let us not forget that the real flesh and blood of the ministry- going outside the four walls and shining our light before others, that they may see Christ in us, and worship Him because of it. We are the body of Christ, His hands and feet, and like Him, we are to leave the Meeting Place and serve others. Share with them the love and hope we have in Jesus.
Share with them not only in words but in action.
