Romans 12:3 (NLT)
Because of the privilege and authority God has given me, I give each of you this warning: Don’t think you are better than you really are. Be honest in your evaluation of yourselves, measuring yourselves by the faith God has given us.
Who is your measuring stick today?
Whose standard are you trying to live up to? How are you measuring your walk with the Lord? If we’re honest, we go with what I feel is our natural instinct:
Most of us measure ourselves using other people. Not necessarily people who we look up to or admire but people that make us look a little bit (or maybe a lot!) better than we really are. Very rarely do we use the ultimate measuring sticks that God has given us:
Jesus Christ and his Word!
Know this: You won’t get anywhere in your walk with the Lord until you make it your desire to live up to Christ’s standard. Sure, you’ll fail and you’ll fall down but you’ll grow! James tells us the following:
James 1:2-4 (NLT)
Dear brothers and sisters, when troubles come your way, consider it an opportunity for great joy. For you know that when your faith is tested, your endurance has a chance to grow. So let it grow, for when your endurance is fully developed, you will be perfect and complete, needing nothing.
Look in the mirror today and decide to follow Christ… Not John (the Pastor OR the Baptist) but Jesus! Not either Jason but Jesus! Measure yourself by God’s Word! Dig into the Gospels and measure yourself by the life and teachings of Christ!
That’s the only way we’re going to grow.
