Galatians 6:7-10 (NLT)
Don’t be misled—you cannot mock the justice of God. You will always harvest what you plant. Those who live only to satisfy their own sinful nature will harvest decay and death from that sinful nature. But those who live to please the Spirit will harvest everlasting life from the Spirit. So let’s not get tired of doing what is good. At just the right time we will reap a harvest of blessing if we don’t give up. Therefore, whenever we have the opportunity, we should do good to everyone—especially to those in the family of faith.
We’d like to believe that doing the right thing is always easy. We’d like to think that in any situation we would be able to take a look at the big picture and make the right decision. Alas, we fail daily and are constantly reminded of how evil we can be when left to our own devices. On top of the fact that we were born sinners, there are the scars, the hurts, and the hang-ups that we carry around with us. For most of us, these things have changed the course of our lives and have an impact on every decision that we make, small or large.
God knew of these struggles when he created us. He knew the many roads we would walk down and the pain that life would throw our way. Praise God that the story doesn’t end there! In his great love, he made a way for us to overcome these things.
As the above scripture states, he also gives us a choice: We can either live only to satisfy our sinful nature or we can live to please the spirit. Then we find that not only does he give us a choice, he tells us how each option is going to play out.
