Work at living in peace with everyone, and work at living a holy life, for those who are not holy will not see the Lord.
1 Peter 1:13-16 (NLT)
So think clearly and exercise self-control. Look forward to the gracious salvation that will come to you when Jesus Christ is revealed to the world. So you must live as God’s obedient children. Don’t slip back into your old ways of living to satisfy your own desires. You didn’t know any better then. But now you must be holy in everything you do, just as God who chose you is holy. For the Scriptures say, “You must be holy because I am holy.”
We’ve spent the past 2 weeks discussing holiness. We’ve discussed the guidelines that Peter laid out for us in the Bible.
Today, I want you to do something a little bit different. This might take 10 or 15 minutes so if you have something to do, come back to this later today so you’ll have time to do it.
I want you take a piece of notebook paper or open up your word processor and jot down responses to the following 3 things:
- I want you to think of 5 things in your life that God has radically changed. It could be an attitude, an addiction, or anything else. Write down 5 different things.
Spend a few minutes praising God for delivering you from these things!
- Now write down 5 things in your life that you know need to radically change. These may be things that God has revealed to you over the past couple weeks or it could be something you’ve been carrying for a long time.
- What steps do you need to take to tackle these things and devote your life to walking with the Lord in holiness?
Spend some time with God praying about these things and if you’re comfortable enough to do so, share these with a trusted Christian friend and begin to work towards putting an end to them.
God has called us to be holy. Not tomorrow or in a few years but now.
Let’s be holy today!
